Reyes wins Red River Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week
Wiley College goalkeeper Erik Reyes’ performance against William Carey on September 12 earns him Red River Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
In the scoreless double overtime tie, Reyes stopped 15 shots and saw 12 other shots that didn’t reach the net. William Carey had the NAIA Player of the Week Chance Bourdene. Through three games, Reyes has only given up one goal on 21 shots and leads the conference with 6.67 saves per game. He ranks second in the conference with a 0.31 goals against average.
This is the second time in his playing career that Reyes has won this honor. He received the award last season on October 26. Reyes was a RRAC All-Tournament Goalkeeper last season as he only allowed two goals during the conference tournament and made eight saves. At the Athletics Recognition Ceremony he was awarded Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.
Reyes is majoring in Physical Education with a minor in Spanish.
