MARSHALL, Texas – Marshall Junior High School kicked off its first year AVID program Tuesday with a contract signing ceremony held at East Texas Baptist University.
The inaugural program at MJHS includes 48 students who enter the district’s AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program in the eighth grade. This is the first year AVID has been available to eighth-grade students. The program is in its fourth year at Marshall High School.
AVID is a college readiness system dedicated to closing the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and other post-secondary opportunities. For more than 30 years, AVID has been responsible for accelerating the learning of students and promoting a schoolwide college-going culture.
