MISD students take two awards at state PTA Reflections contest

MARSHALL, Texas – Two Marshall ISD students have been recognized at the state level for their entries to this year’s State PTA Reflections contest.
Emma Kate McIntosh, of South Marshall STEM Academy, received an Award of Excellence, Literature, in the 3rd-5th grade arts division.
Mallory Maxwell, of Marshall High School, received Honorable Mention for her Visual Arts entry in the high school division.
The two winners were part of a group of 10 entries from MISD students that qualified for the state Reflections contest.
“I could not be more proud of our teachers and students who participated,” said Sandi Parks, MISD Fine Arts Coordinator. “I also deeply appreciate the work of our campus Reflections representative parents and the leadership of Mrs. Stacia Runnels, Reflections Chair for the Marshall City Council PTA.”
Parks said she was particularly proud in the overall participation in MISD this year in the Reflections contest, considering there were no MISD entries submitted in the 2015-2016 Reflections contest.
“I am especially excited with these results in light of last year’s zero Reflection participation by MISD schools,” Parks said. “Early in the fall, our Superintendent, Dr. Jerry Gibson, charged me with making sure we had several entries from the district, and our campuses certainly stepped up.”
