Wildcats battle LSUA, Texas A&M-Texarkana
The Wiley College men’s soccer team will host Louisiana State-University Alexandria at 3 p.m. Thursday and visit Texas A&M-Texarkana at 3 p.m. Saturday in Red River Athletic Conference matches.
The Wildcats (3-2-1, 1-1 in RRAC) split their first two conference games with a 2-1 double overtime victory over University of Houston-Victoria and a 2-0 loss at University of Saint Thomas-Houston. Wiley College is 2-1 against LSU-Alexandria with their latest meeting a 3-1 Wildcat victory in the RRAC Quarterfinals last season. Saturday will be Wiley’s first meeting with Texas A&M-Texarkana.
LSU-Alexandria enters Thursday’s game losing all three conference games – being outscored 8-1. The Generals went 3-4 in nonconference. Luiz Petribu is the leading goal scorer with five and is tied for third in game-winning goals.
Texas A&M-Texarkana is in its inaugural season and is 3-9 and 2-1 in Red River Athletic Conference play. The Eagles beat Jarvis Christian College and LSU-Alexandria. Texarkana’s goalkeeper Zak McCarthy ranks second in the conference with 57 saves.
“The key for us is how well we defend,” coach Demetrio Hernandez said. “I feel good about our matchups.”
