By Marcus Sandifer, Texas Department of Transportation
WASKOM – This spring marks the 30th anniversary of the popular “Don’t mess with Texas” anti-litter campaign. The Texas Travel Information Center in Waskom is celebrating the occasion with a variety of events and activities. The mayor of Waskom will kick off the celebration by reading an official proclamation around 10:15 a.m. Friday, May 27. Guests at the center will be able to play a Spin-the-Wheel game to win prizes, have pictures made with photo props of Matthew McConnaughy and George Strait and tables will be set up with give-away items.
The Don’t mess with Texas campaign has captured Texans’ sense of pride in their wonderful state while also helping to keep tons of litter off Texas roads. The public is invited to attend the celebration.
