MARSHALL – Paige Wilson loves her second grade students at William B. Travis Elementary School. She enjoys her classes and loves guiding her students to learn.

In 19 years as a teacher with the Marshall Independent School District, Wilson has taught kindergarten, second grade, third grade and fourth grade. Ironically, before she began as a teacher, Wilson had been employed at East Texas Professional Credit Union for 13 years before she went to East Texas Baptist University, and received her bachelor of science in education in 1986.

This summer, Wilson will be spending her time helping students in China learn. Friends live and work in China. “She invited me to come, so I applied, and was accepted,” Wilson said.

While in China, she will take the opportunity to tour the country – including visits to the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, the Terra Cotta Warriors, and a visit to Shandong Province.

I’ll have mountains to hike right outside my apartment, and within walking distance the other way is the beach, the Yellow Sea,” Wilson said. She will be working with kindergarten and first grade students.

Wilson will leave around toward the end of June. “I will be celebrating my 33rd wedding anniversary in China without her husband … but we will celebrate one day when I get back to Texas.”
