Lady Wildcats look to improve position in Red River Athletic Conference standings
The Wiley College volleyball team hits the road and looks to advance in the Red River Athletic Conference Standings when it plays at Our Lady of the Lake University at 6 p.m. Friday and at Huston-Tillotson University at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Lady Wildcats (8-7, 3-1 in RRAC) enter Friday’s game coming off sweeps over Texas College and Jarvis Christian College and are tied with University of the Southwest, Our Lady of the Lake and Huston-Tillotson with a 3-1 conference record.
Wiley College is 7-5 against the Lady Saints – who are receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 poll – and own a 2-3 record on the road. The Lady Wildcats have lost their last two at Our Lady of the Lake and haven’t won since the 2012 season. The Lady Saints split their games last weekend with a four-set loss at the University of the Southwest and a sweep at Langston.
“We’ve worked all week,” Head coach LaKyva Bason said. “We are going to play them like we’ve played everyone else. It’s going to come down to what we are going to do and how we are going to handle them. We aren’t going to over hype it.”
Senior Rebecca Moustapha said the team needs to play like it knows how.
“We are going to play hard,” Moustapha said. “We are going to keep our intensity up and play as a team.”
The Lady Wildcats are 14-0 against Huston-Tillotson University – including a 7-0 mark in Austin. The Lady Rams also swept Langston University and lost in four sets at the University of the Southwest. Huston-Tillotson won in five sets at Dallas Christian College Monday.
