The Wiley College volleyball team hopes to continue its winning ways when it opens the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament with Jarvis Christian College at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of the Lake University.

The Lady Wildcats (17-11) enter Friday’s quarterfinal on a four-game winning streak and have won seven of their last eight matches. Wiley College swept both regular season meetings with the Lady Bulldogs. In a home victory on September 24, The Lady Wildcats won two of three sets by double-digits. At Jarvis Christian College on October 21, Wiley had to go to extra rallies to win two of the sets.

“Everyone is coming to play hard for what could possibly be their last match of the season,” head coach LaKyva Bason said. “We must minimize unforced errors. We must play until we hear the whistle and play our game.”

If Wiley College defeats Jarvis, it will face the University of the Southwest at 5 p.m. Friday in the semifinals. The Lady Wildcats split with the Lady Mustangs – losing in four sets on September 17 and winning in a sweep on November 3. Bason said the Lady Mustangs are a good defensive team.

“If we can remember that the ball is going to come back over and control our offense, we can win,” Bason said. “Southwest is going to come out fighting but we will too.”

The championship game will be 1 p.m. Saturday. Top seed Our Lady of the Lake University earned a bye and will play the winner of University of St. Thomas-Houston and Huston-Tillotson in the semifinals.
