Lady Wildcats fall in overtime heartbreaker

HOUSTON – The Wiley College women’s soccer team will leave Houston still hunting for its first Red River Athletic Conference victory. The Lady Wildcats lost 2-1 on a last-minute goal in overtime to the University of Saint Thomas-Houston Saturday at Houston Sports Park.

“It was a great game,” head coach Rafael Muniz said. “The last two games were good against the top teams in the conference. Now we get to play at home and shift our focus to Louisiana State University-Alexandria.”

The first half was scoreless. The Lady Wildcats allowed a goal two minutes after the second half started. Shenelle Henry scored her second goal of the season five minutes later to tie the game. With 32 seconds left in overtime, Wiley College gave up the golden goal.

The Lady Wildcats (2-2-1, 0-1-1 in RRAC) was outshot 16-13. Both teams put up six shots on goal. Miguianne Boldrin and Henry each had five shots. Keri Myers made four saves. Wiley (10) committed less fouls than St. Thomas (15). The Lady Wildcats were only awarded two corner kicks to The Lady Celts seven.

“We made an individual mistake,” Muniz said. “We need to work on our concentration.”
