MARSHALL – May 18, a little more than 50 to 60  people gathered at the Marshall Visual Arts Center as part of National Police Week. Harrison County Sheriff Tom McCool, members of the Marshall Fire Department, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, Chief Jesus “Eddie” Campa and officers from the Marshall Police Department and others participated in the City of Marshall/Harrison County Law Enforcement Memorial Service today.

The ceremony is held in conjunction with Peace Officers Memorial Day, , as well as National Police Week, which kicked off Sunday and ends Saturday.

According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund,  in 1962, President John F. Kennedy designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day nationally. Locally, the day of memory was chosen May 18. Many officers from across the state were remembered during the ceremony for giving the ultimate sacrifice to serve the public, their lives.
