“Mystery Monday”-Unsolved Murder of Dan Tatum


Dan TatumChief Jesus “Eddie” Campa and the Marshall Police Department are seeking the community’s assistance to help solve one of Marshall’s cold cases. MPD is seeking any information related to the murder of Dan Tatum, which occurred in March 2010.

On March 17, 2010, at approximately 6:38 a.m., Officers responded to the 1900 block of Tolivar Road in reference to a black male lying on the shoulder of the roadway. Upon arrival, Officers discovered a black male, later identified as Dan Tatum, lying on his back, unresponsive. Officers discovered that Tatum had what appeared to be gunshot wounds. Tatum was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Melba Oney, at 7:53 a.m.

The Marshall Police Departments’ Criminal Investigations Bureau has put in many hours on this case, but has yet to come up with any information leading to an arrest. Chief Campa asks that the community help us in solving this case and bring closure to Tatum’s family and friends. Chief Campa stated “Any information you have, even if you believe it’s trivial, could be the piece of evidence we need to make an arrest. Our detectives are working tirelessly to solve not only Mr. Tatum’s murder, but all other homicides that have occurred in the City of Marshall. With your help, we can solve these crimes.”
