Meadowbrook Funeral Home: Mr. Brenson Cherry


11Brenson Cherry, age 87, a longtime resident of Marshall, Texas went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 14, 2016 in Shreveport, LA. He was born on January 25, 1929 in Beckville, TX to Eldrege and Velma (Hightower) Cherry.

Brenson married Ozell McWilliams Cherry on January 5, 1947 and they were married 64 years before she preceded him in death on December 26, 2010. After her death, Brenson married Betty Ruth Bray Cherry and they have been married just short of three years.

He graduated from high school and joined the U.S. Navy, serving in WWII during Hiroshima. After being honorably discharged from the military, Brenson was employed as a Police Officer for University Park in the Dallas area, where he worked for over 30 years.

He returned to Marshall working for the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department in the early 1980s. Brenson later went to work for Eastman, retiring after 25 years. He was a hard worker, returning to Eastman part-time after his retirement. Brenson was a faithful member of the Hillcrest Masonic Lodge #1318 in Dallas Texas for 54 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Marshall for over 20 years. His hobbies were few as he spent many years in the workforce, but he was quite proud of his 1948 firetruck that he purchased and still owned.

His was a life well lived and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Brenson is preceded in death by his first wife, Ozell; his parents, Eldrege and Velma Cherry; and his siblings, Ruth and Lola. He is survived by his wife, Betty Ruth (Bray) Cherry; his cherished daughters, Kezia Peterman, Antionette Eck, Brenell Briggs, Tammy Tanner and her husband, Paul; and his son, Joseph Cherry; his beloved grandchildren, Jeremy Briggs, Coley Briggs, Danny Peterman, Nicholas Tanner, Heather Tanner, Jacob Tanner, Hunter Cherry and Ashley Cherry; his sisters, Edith Simmons and Sue Cherry; his step-sons, Allen Kimball, Donny Kimball; and numerous other family members and friends. Visitation for Brenson will be held at Meadowbrook Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 from 6-8pm. Funeral Service with Military Honors will be held at Meadowbrook Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at 10:00am. Interment will be in Colonial Gardens Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to Ozell McWilliams Cherry. Honoring Brenson as Pallbearers will be Jeremy Briggs, Nicholas Tanner, Jacob Tanner, Allen Kimball, Donny Kimball, Coley Briggs, Danny Peterman and Ozzie Peterman.
