On September 21, 2017, at approximately 2:30 p.m., a teacher notified Marshall ISD Police and administrators at Marshall Junior High School of a possible firearm in the backpack of a student. The student was immediately brought to the principal’s office where MISD Police along with several campus administrators initiated a search of the backpack.

The search discovered a Powerline .177 BB Air Pistol in the backpack. The student’s parents were immediately notified and the gun was confiscated and placed into the evidence locker belonging to the MISD Police Department. At no time were other students and staff at Marshall Junior High threatened or in danger.

The matter is still under investigation by the Marshall ISD Police Department. Guilty parties will be fully disciplined according to MISD district policy as well as to the full extent of the law.

The safety of all of our students and our staff is of the utmost importance to the Marshall Independent School District, and we thank our Marshall Junior High administration as well as our MISD Police Officers for their prompt response to this incident.
