MISD names principals for new elementary schools
MARSHALL, Texas – The Marshall ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the recommendations of MISD Superintendent Dr. Jerry Gibson for principals of the new Legacy 2017 elementary school campuses during Monday’s regular March school board meeting.
Loyed Jones, currently the principal at George Washington Carver Elementary, will be the new principal at the new K-5 elementary school under construction at the current site of William B. Travis Elementary. Nakeisha Adams Pegues, currently principal at J.H. Moore Elementary, was named the principal at the new K-5 elementary school under construction at the current site of Price T. Young Middle School.
The board approved the hiring of Kassie Watson, currently the principal at Waskom High School in Waskom ISD, to serve as principal of the new K-5 elementary school under construction at the current site of David Crockett Elementary.
Jones is currently in his second year as principal at Carver, having been hired in the summer of 2015. He had previously served as principal of Handley Elementary in Garland ISD from 2006-2014 before coming to Marshall.
Jones earned his Bachelor of Science in General Studies from the University of Texas at Dallas in Richardson and also earned a Masters of Educational Administration from the University of North Texas in Denton.
Adams Pegues is in her first year as principal at J.H. Moore. She began her career teaching fifth grade Science at Sam Houston Middle School in MISD from 2005-2008 before joining Longview ISD as a fifth grade Science teacher at Bramlette Elementary from 2008-2013.
Adams Pegues served as Curriculum Support teacher at Bramlette Elementary in LISD from 2003-2015, when she then came back to Marshall as assistant principal at J.H. Moore during the 2015-2016 school year before being named principal last summer.
Adams Pegues holds a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Texas at Arlington (2000) and earned a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership with Principal Certification from the University of Texas at Tyler in 2013.
Watson has been principal at Waskom High School since June of 2015. Prior to that, she was principal at Westlawn Elementary in Texarkana ISD from 2012-2015. She also has experience as a Curriculum coach, interventionist and assistant principal with stops in Texarkana ISD, Sherman ISD and Anna ISD.
Watson, a native of Linden, earned a Bachelor of Science from Stephen F. Austin State University and has a Masters in Education Administration from Texas A&M University-Texarkana. She will officially begin her duties in MISD this summer.
