MISD approves contract with Sedalco as GC for Crockett project

MARSHALL – David Crockett Elementary, the final new construction project in the MISD Legacy 2017 building program to be put out for bid earlier this spring, has been awarded to Sedalco Construction Services out of Fort Worth.

MISD’s Board of Trustees approved the selection of Sedalco for the Crockett project during Monday’s April board meeting. The project is the final of four total new construction projects to be awarded to a general contractor through the district’s chosen delivery method of Competitive Sealed Proposal.

Along with Sedalco on the Crockett site project, MISD will be working with Transet Co. of Longview (William B. Travis Elementary site project); WRL General Contractors, Ltd., of Tyler (Price T. Young Middle School site project); and RLM General Contractors of Longview (new Marshall Junior High School) in the building program approved by MISD voters in last May’s bond election.

The final project in the building program, the renovation of Sam Houston Middle School into the district’s K-5 STEM Academy, will enter initial planning phases in the next few weeks with bidding expected to open sometime in the late summer or fall.

All projects are scheduled for completion and ready to open in August of 2017.

Sedalco has been in business for over 30 years and has completed building projects in several different areas including commercial, retail, healthcare and educational buildings, among others. Sedalco was the general contractor for projects in Sabine ISD, Everman ISD, Waxahachie ISD, Goose Creek ISD, and several others.

The contract with Sedalco establishes a budget of $17,048,400.00 for the Crockett project.

Other actions of note from Monday’s Board meeting included:
MISD announced its 2015-2016 Campus Teachers of the Year.

Mr. Robert Wilbanks, Project Manager from LAN, presented a monthly report on the status of the MISD Bond Program.
Trustees approved the addition of Nancy Fessler as a 2015-2016 PDAS appraiser.
Trustees approved donations from McKool Smith, Farmers Insurance and AEP Swepco.
The monthly financial reports were approved.
Trustees approved the Proposed Wellness Policy as presented by Kimberly Jones, Health Services Supervisor for MISD.
Trustees approved the 2016-2017 Academic District Calendar as presented by Dr. Rebeca Cooper, Assistant Superintendent for Leadership and Learning.
Trustees approved a request for electronic submission of a Low Attendance Day waiver for March 9, 2016, as presented by Hutcherson Hill, Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services.
Trustees approved the purchase of a specially adapted bus from Rush Bush Center to serve the district’s special needs students, as presented by Leon Fisher, MISD Transportation Supervisor.
Trustees approved the Quarterly Investment Report as presented by Kristin Byrd, Assistant Superintendent for Business and Finance.
Trustees approved the purchase of STEM technology, as presented by Dr. Rebeca Cooper, Assistant Superintendent for Leadership and Learning.
Trustees approved the purchase of technology for Special Education, as presented by Dr. Rebeca Cooper, Assistant Superintendent for Leadership and Learning.

The May meeting of the MISD Board of Trustees will be held on Monday, May 16, at 5:30 p.m.. An Agenda Review for that meeting will be held on Thursday, May 12, at 12 p.m.
