MARSHALL – The mass fatal tragedy that took lives and severely injured others at the Pulse Club in Orlando has sparked numerous reactions – including here in Marshall, Texas.

Demetria McFarland, president of Marshall Against Violence, has responded as a Christian and community leader. “We need to pray.”

So, Friday night, June 17,  McFarland and MAV will be hosting a prayer vigil at 6 p.m. on the east lawn of the Marshall Historic Courthouse. McFarland said they will also release balloons.

The event is not to take a stand for the LGBT community. “We are just gathering to pray for humanity, pray for our country and to remember these lives that were lost. Also, to pray support for their families.”

“We welcome anyone from the LGBT community to come join us – in fact, we would like for all of Marshall and Harrison County to come,” McFarland said.

She continued, “It is past time for us to pray for this country.”
