Lady Wildcats split tri-match with Williams Baptist and Crowley’s Ridge


WALNUT RIDGE, Arkansas – The Wiley College volleyball team fell in four sets to Williams Baptist (25-19, 22-25, 23-25, 19-25) but defeated Crowley’s Ridge in four sets (25-9, 29-31, 25-22, 25-21) Tuesday at Williams Baptist College.

“I thought we played well,” head coach LaKyva Bason said. “I’m pretty hard to please. These matches will help us prepare for Saturday but there’s a lot of work we need to do.”

The Lady Wildcats (14-11) weren’t able to maintain momentum after winning the first set against the Lady Eagles. Lucille Ricord led the team with 15 kills. Sydnie Beckett led the team with 26 assists. Miyah Keller led Wiley with 20 digs. Fernanda Aguiar followed with 15, Ricord had 12 and Noemi Garza had 10. Olena Fedorenko led the team with four blocks.

Ricord was the Lady Wildcat’s leading attacker in the victory over Crowley’s Ridge College with 15. Rebecca Moustapha and Jayme Bazile followed with 11. Beckett led the team with 30 assists, Garza followed with 22. Keller led the team with 15 digs. Aguiar and Beckett followed with 14. Ricord reached double digits with 12. Renata Da Silva led the team with six blocks. Ricord led the team with five serving aces.

Wiley College resumes Red River Athletic Conference play at home Saturday against the University of St. Thomas-Houston. The Lady Wildcats lost in four sets on the road and hope to even the season series. Wiley trails the Lady Celts by two games in conference.
