Lady Wildcats face former conference opponent Texas Wesleyan

The last time the Wiley College women’s soccer team faced Texas Wesleyan it was in the first year in 2012. With a completely different team, the Lady Wildcats will meet the Lady Rams again at 4 p.m. Thursday for a nonconference game.

This will be the Lady Wildcats’ first game since their 2-1 victory at Oklahoma City on September 10. Coach Rafael Muniz said his team is focused in practice and is looking forward to being back in action.

“Last week was hard because we were without games,” Muniz said. “Whenever you have games, my players are easily motivated. We’ve continued to work physically and on our conditioning. We work on all aspects of our game.”

In the first two games, Wiley College (2-0) has received an offensive spark from freshman Janaina Das Neves, who scored three goals and leads the Red River Athletic Conference with 1.5 goals per game. Goalkeeper Keri Myers has stopped four of six shots.

Texas Wesleyan enters Thursday game on a two-game winning streak with shutout victories against Jarvis Christian College and Paul Quinn College. Last season the Lady Rams went 9-7-1 and reached the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament.

“We just got to keep playing like we’ve been playing,” Muniz said. “We stick to our philosophy and I think we are going to play a great game.”
