FM 9 to be Resurfaced in Harrison County

A section of Farm-to-Market Road 9 in southeast Harrison County will receive a new riding surface next year according to plans approved in December by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

“We will be resurfacing a 4.2-mile section of the highway from the Panola County Line to FM 2625,” said Ray Brady, area engineer for TxDOT in Marshall.  “The old pavement will be removed, the base materials strengthened and then the entire roadway will be repaved.”

In addition to the resurfacing work, safety lighting will be installed at the intersections of FM 9 at FM 451 and FM 2625 to help illuminate the intersections at night.

Madden Contracting Company of Minden, La. was awarded the contract for the construction project with a bid of $2.8 million.

Work on the project should begin in April and take about seven months to complete, Brady said.
