Social media helps Marshall Police arrest wanted person
Early Friday morning, March 18, the Marshall Police Department posted a video through Youtube, Facebook and local media asking for help in locating a fugitive, Megan Rene Meredith. She was wanted on a felony warrant of burglary of a habitation.
By 10:30 a.m., the MPD phone lines and the Marshall-Harrison County Crimestoppers’ line were jammed with calls pointing towards Ms. Meredith’s location. A call to the Crimestoppers’ line, according to a press release from Capt. John Best of the Marshall Police Department, was the one that led to the arrest of Ms. Meredith.
The caller stated that Ms. Meredith was at a location in the Uncertain community. Detectives with the Marshall Police Department contacted deputies with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office. HCSO deputies took Ms. Meredith into custody at approximately 11 a.m.
“I would like to thank the citizens of Marshall and Harrison County for helping to locate Megan Meredith,” Marshall Police Department Chief Jesus “Eddie” Campa said. “We need the citizens to be our eyes and ears in the community, and in this case they were. We were able to take the information given to Crimestoppers, contact Harrison County Sheriff’s Office and arrest a wanted fugitive.”
Campa continued,”This is the reason that our social media campaign, ‘Fugitive Friday,’ was implemented. We believe by getting the information to the public, we can work together to make our community a safer place. This is a great example of what can be accomplished when our citizens, media and local law enforcement agencies work together for a common goal.”
