Applications to attend the Teen Citizens Police Academy are now open

The Marshall Police Department has formed a five-day Teen Citizens Police Academy (TCPA).

The MPD TCPA will create an expansion of our community-based efforts and emphasize our motto of “Putting Our Community First.” This program is intended to open the lines of communication between teens in the community and the Marshall Police Department. The objective of the Teen Citizens Police Academy is to produce informed teenagers about the daily operations of a police officer and let those adolescents experience some of the training tactics of police. The teens and police officers will have the opportunity to meet each other face-to-face, and each becomes a person to the other. In the past, some teens may have simply seen a uniform, now they will have an understanding of the person behind the badge. Chief of Police Jesus “Eddie” Campa stated, “I am very excited about this new program our department is offering. My hope is that by training this generation, we will be able to restore the positive relationship between young citizens and police.” During the Teen Citizens Police Academy, participants will be exposed to many different aspects of law enforcement and most of the training will be hands-on. Some of the activities include:

  • Agency Tour
  • Patrol Operations
  • Traffic Enforcement
  • K-9 Demonstrations
  • Effects of Drug and Alcohol Use and Consequences
  • Use of Force Simulator

Anyone interested in participating in the academy will have to complete and return the TCPA application. All applications must be signed by a parent or guardian. Individuals that pass the application process will be granted a slot in the academy. The TCPA is limited to 25 individuals per session and is only for teens 14-17 years old. Participants do not have to be residents of Marshall to participate. The classes will be held from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. on June 5, 6, 8, 13 and 15. Participants will have to attend all five days to graduate from the academy. The application can be downloaded by visiting Marshallpd.com. Complete the application and return it via email to colvin.kelly@marshalltexas.net or drop it off at MPD at 2101 East End Blvd. North in Marshall.
