Police chief to share how PD has improved community relations, then ask for new cars

MARSHALL – Close to his second-year anniversary since becoming the chief of police for the City of Marshall Police Department, Jesus “Eddie” Campa is scheduled to share with commissioners at a special-called meeting at 6 p.m., Tuesday, May 3, how MPD has been able to establish better relationships within the community.
In the last two years, specifically the last few months, the Marshall Police Department has increased patrols in various areas, implemented a special task force, called the Marshall Criminal Apprehension Team, and through efforts made jointly by the department’s Police Community Representative, Officer George Gill and MPD administration, have sponsored neighborhood meetings at BelAire Manor Apartment Complex, Ward Plaza and Stonecreek Apartments. Public Information Officer Justin Mills also directed the MPD’s first citizens’ police academy.
Campa’s presentation is scheduled toward the end of the meeting. He also will make a request to the commissioners for funds to purchase seven new patrol carts for the Marshall Police Department.
Also on the agenda for the meeting:
1. To consider approval of a contract with Flowers and Associates, Inc. for architectural services for the construction of the new City of Marshall Police Department’s Animal Control and Shelter facility.
2. Discussion and consideration of the lease agreement with the Marshall Convention and Visitor’s Bureau for use of space at 301 N. Washington, and discussion of renovation of the Perkins’ Building.
3. Consider of approval of an appointment to the Marshall Public Library Board of Trustees.
4. Discussion and consideration of interlocal agreements with Harrison County for Public Library Services and the Marshall Animal Shelter.
5. Discussion and report on work that has eben completed utilizing Street Maintenance Tax Funds.
