The Boys & Girls Clubs of America has partnered with Harvard business school to create an awesome training opportunity for Club leaders throughout the world. Bryan Partee, Executive Director of the local Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Pines was selected as one of 11 in the inaugural Harvard class.
“This is really cool.” said Partee. “Having been at the Club for 11 years, I can tell you BGCA has amazing trainings. Now to have the partnership with the preeminent university – I am really excited about what I can get out of this and what I can do for my Club.”
The training consists of three phases. Two will take place in conjunction with BGCA conferences in New Orleans and Oklahoma City at BGCA conferences where Harvard staff will come to the attendees. The third will take place at Harvard a University during the summer.
“Since I get to be part of the first class, I don’t know what to expect. I know I have homework coming for a project, so I am trying to get my mind
back into that collegiate study-mode.”
The projects are self-designated with the assistance of Harvard and BGCA staff. Partee thinks he will focus on Club needs in rural communities. “Usually, the smaller Clubs get overlooked. I know that some of my colleagues are from Ft. Worth, Chicago, and Los Angeles. For this Club to be
recognized on such a national level is a testament to our amazing staff and our board who tirelessly work for the kids. It is an exciting step to enhancing myself and my team’s ability to create great futures for so many.”
The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Pines started in 1992. Since 2005, the Club has grown from one site serving 80 kids per day to an anticipated 20 sites and 1,500 kids per day by the end of 2016. The Club currently enriches lives in Elysian Fields, Hallsville, Hughes Springs, Jefferson, Marshall, Ore City, and Waskom. Gladewater, Mt. Pleasant, and New Diana are expected to begin serving kids in the fall of 2016.
