South Marshall STEM Academy earns designation as Reward School

MARSHALL, Texas – South Marshall STEM Academy has been recognized as a Reward School by the Texas Education Agency in an announcement and special presentation during the March regular meeting of the Marshall ISD Board of Trustees.
Carmen Delgado, Region 7 Education Service Center Coordinator, presented the award to South Marshall Principal Jerry Hancock and staff in attendance.
South Marshall earned distinction as both a High-Performing and High-Progress Reward School.
A high-performing Reward School l is a Title I school that receives distinctions based on math and reading levels. A high-progress Reward School is a Title I school in the top 25 percent in annual improvement and/or schools in the top 25 percent of those demonstrating ability to close performance gaps based on system safeguards.
Each school is compared to a unique group of 40 other public schools throughout the state that closely matches that school on the following characteristics: campus type, campus size, percent economically-disadvantaged students, mobility rates based on cumulative attendance and percent of English language learners.
South Marshall STEM Academy was one of just 300 schools from across the entire state of Texas to be named a Title I Reward School for the 2015-2016 school year. Title I schools are defined as campuses with a student population of at least 40 percent low-income.
