MPD Chief named a finalist in Galveston chief search
MARSHALL- According to a March article in the Galveston County Daily News, which was later confirmed by an email from the City of Galveston’s Public Information Office, Marshall Police Chief Jesus “Eddie” Campa is listed as one of nine top finalists in the search for a new police chief for the City of Galveston.
Campa, who has been with the Marshall Police Department since 2014, was listed as Jesus Campa in the information released by Kala McCain, Public Information Officer for the City of Galveston. The role of Chief of Police in Galveston became vacant after the retirement of Chief Henry Porretto in September 2015.
Others on the list include University of Houston Police Chief Richard Boyle, Capt. Byron Frankland of the Galveston Police Department, Michael Gray, a former GPD lieutenant, Godley, Texas’s former Chief of Police James Healy, Texarkana Assistant Chief of Police Charles Kreidler, Former Houston METRO Police Department Chief Victor Rodriguez, Sergeant Destin Sims of GPD and West University Place Police Chief Ken Walker.
According to the article, the city had gone through a list of 68 applicants to get to the nine. Finalist interviews for the Galveston Police Chief position will begin in mid-April to narrow down the list to the top two or three candidates. The final three will go through a secondary interview process before a decision is made. City officials in Galveston expect to have the position filled by late April or early May..
Campa came to Marshall from the Ector County Independent School District where he briefly served as chief of police. Prior to that, he had been with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. – John Wayne Ferguson of the Galveston County Daily News contributed to this article.
