Recipe of the Day: Grandma’s Praline Cookies


Culinary_arts_kitchen-8-09My grandmother, Lois Holland, was known for her special cookies, called “Grandma’s Praline Cookies.” (Lois Holland died in September of 2008)  Here is her recipe.

3/4 cup shortening (Crisco or Margarine)

3/4 cup sugar

1/2 cup unsulfured molasses

1 egg

2 1/4 cups all purpose flour

1 tsp. cinnamon

1 1/2 tsp. soda

1/2 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. ginger

1 12 oz.pkg.butterscotch morsels

Powdered sugar

Pecan halves

Cream shortening and sugar. Add molasses and egg. Mix well. Sift dry ingredients. Stir to mix, then stir in the morsels. Chill 2 hours. Form into 1 in. balls. Roll in Powdered sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet, press down. Place nut half on top of each. Bake 10-12 min. at 325 -350 degrees. Since ovens are different. Watch as they burn easily.
