Chow Down With The Chief

William B. Travis Elementary students Alexis Jernigan and Luke Mersino were honorees in the MISD Police Department “Chow Down with the Chief” program for the week of Feb. 19-23 on Friday.

Alexis and Luke, both fourth-graders, along with WBT Assistant Principal Zachary Venable, were treated to lunch at CiCi’s Pizza by MISD PD Chief Joe Arledge.

The students discussed their favorite classes and activities with Chief Arledge during the lunch. Alexis, the daughter of Lajuan Hicks, said her favorite subject is Reading. Her favorite reading is fiction, and she also said she enjoys playing basketball.

Luke, son of Clint and Melaina Mersino, said his favorite class was Writing and that he enjoyed baseball. Soft-spoken while eating his pizza and brownie for dessert, Luke agreed that he was quiet because that way no one else knows what you may be thinking!

Chief Arledge and the Marshall ISD Police Department wish to thank CiCi’s for their sponsorship in the “Chow Down With The Chief” program.

Chief Arledge began the “Chow Down with the Chief” program in 2016-2017 as a way to develop positive relationships between law enforcement and community, and students. Each week, Chief Arledge visits an MISD campus and escorts lucky students chosen by their principals for good citizenship, behavior and grades, and treats them to lunch at a participating Marshall restaurant.
