MHS Alums Complete Air Force Basic Training

Casey Daugherty, a 2016 graduate of Marshall High School, has completed her basic training at the Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio and will now continue her technical training at Lackland.

MHS Air Force Junior ROTC cadets Raylon Boyd, Enedina Tinoco, Gianni Edmister, Dakota Allen, Zahra Williams and Chris Rogers, along with SmSgt. Lawrence Bunton and LTC Mike Deal traveled to San Antonio to celebrate with Casey on her completion of basic training last weekend.

Another MHS ROTC graduate, Djuan Sheppard (Class of 2015), finished basic training this past December. He is now attending technical training in Wichita Falls.

Both Marshall graduates will begin their military careers with the rank of E-3. Normally, individuals who join any branch of the military begin as an E-1. But by participating in AFJROTC in high school for four years, a cadet is immediately promoted to E-3 upon completion of basic training. This can provide the individual with up to $700 more per month as a member of the armed forces.

SMSgt. Bunton is still leader of the Marshall ROTC program. LTC Deal, formerly of Marshall, is not SASI (Senior Aerospace Science Instructor) at Ryan High School in Denton.
