Lady Wildcats dominate Texas College

The Wiley College volleyball team put on a dominating performance in their first home game with a sweep over Texas College (25-13, 25-6, 25-14) Thursday in a Red River Athletic Conference game at Alumni Gymnasium.

“I’m really proud of my girls,” said head coach LaKyva Bason, who is a RRAC Coach of the Year candidate. “We had a rough week of practice but we overcame it. They came in and were focused – as a result we won.”

The Lady Wildcats lead the entire match and dominated Texas College up front with 32 kills and 14 blocks. The Lady Steers only had nine kills and two blocks. Wiley College’s Jayme Bazile, who is a RRAC candidate for Newcomer of the Year, and Rebecca Moustapha led all players with five blocks.

Wiley benefited from 26 attack errors, four service errors, 11 receiving errors and two ball handling errors by Texas College.

“We did pretty good,” Alissa Johnson said. “We can improve on little things. For the most part we did well.”

Bazile led all players with eight kills. Alissa Johnson followed with seven. Sydnie Beckett led all players with 17 assists. Noemi Garza recorded nine. Fernanda Aguiar started at libero and led all players with three serving aces and eight digs. Michela Devendorf followed with five.
