TYLER, Texas – The Wiley College women’s soccer team scored three goals in the second half to clinch a Red River Athletic Conference Tournament berth with a 3-0 victory over Texas College Thursday.
“I played everybody today to give them minutes to prepare for the Red River Athletic Conference finals,” head coach Rafael Muniz said.
Janaina Das Neves, who is a RRAC Newcomer of the Year candidate, started the scoring for Wiley College. Idali Mesta increased the advantage with a penalty kick. Miguianne Boldrin scored her fifth goal of the season.
The Lady Wildcats (7-3-2, 4-2-2 in RRAC) outshot the Lady Steers 29-6. Keri Myers earned her fourth shutout of the season. Ana Maldonado led Wiley College in shots with 6. The Lady Wildcats were awarded eight corner kicks to Texas College’s one.
Wiley College closes out the regular season Saturday against Jarvis Christian College at Lear Park Athletic Complex in Longview.
“If we beat Jarvis, we will end up in third or fourth-place,” Muniz said. “It’s great because we will get to play at home. It would be the first time in our program history to host a tournament game.”
